make the most of WHAT YOU HAVE

I just love this article from Madison I just had to share we all need a reminder to make the most of what we have and to stop wishing or wanting more. Sometimes we need to take a step back and be thankful for what we do have.

Buddhists recognise that happiness can be achieved through modesty, empathy, insight and positivity. A humble attitude can lead to better self-appreciation, better confidence and a stronger sense of optimism – enough to put that swing back into your step.

If you make the best of what you already have, you can make yourself happy from a grassroots level. So we’ve come up with a couple of humbling tips for the madison woman, so that she can grow and prosper without feeling weighed down by the stresses of routine.

Treat yourself to a new haircut A new look can work wonders. Show your hair some love at the salon and sport something refreshing. Just take a look at Rihanna, and her variety of ’dos from 2012. As she changes, so does her hair, keeping her look constantly fresh.

Know how to 'wow':  Got a date coming up? Or an event for work? Glam it up. Dust off those once-in-a-lifetime pair of heels you’ve had since your cousins wedding, and knock the socks off your friends and family. A little bit of attention is great for your self-esteem. And who knows? Maybe that killer look will help in the relationship department.

Embrace a signature look:  Keep yourself up-to-date. Fashion can be exciting – grab a mag, follow a blog, and use your imagination to discover what works for you. Depending on the person, fitting in can contribute to enhanced sense of belonging. But if you’re that rebel girl with a unique sense of style, by all means express yourself!

Play up your assets: If you’ve ever watched an episode of Trinny and Susannah, you would know that dressing for your body type is key to emphasising your assets. Take some time to determine what works best for your shape. If you’ve got it, flaunt it.

Less is more: It makes more sense to upgrade to something small, than to downgrade something large, right? These days, technology and minimalism go hand-in-hand – soon enough we’ll have about two things in our house that will be able to do everything. Try and be economical by checking the star ratings of what you have, and what you’re looking for.

Budget, budget, budget! Saving is critical for financial security and peace of mind. Get some advice and manage your money the right way. The more you save, the more money you will have for those once-in-a-lifetime splurge occasions!

Invest in a savings account: Take a look at the various different types of accounts that your bank has on offer. Rapid saver accounts allow you to build your nest-egg through accumulative interest . . . provided that you keep your hands off the account! In this way, you can kill two birds with one stone by saving and earning.

Find new ways to do old tasks: Keep your work life from becoming monotonous by finding new ways to tackle the tasks you can do with your eyes closed. Ask colleagues for ideas, or have a browse at some productivity apps online. You might even improve your time management.

Take time off: Give it a rest! Take some well-earned annual leave or sick days to revitalise your body and mind. When you return to work, you’ll feel refreshed and ready to get that promotion!

Make your work relationships work: Make an effort when it comes to relationships with those you share your workplace with. If you have good working relationships, going to work will be a much more enjoyable experience. Encourage drinks together after work, or even the occasional meal.

Time management: Make new friends, but always make time for the old ones. Loyal friends are friends til the end, and can give you their whole support through thick and thin.

Be spontaneous: Keep the spark in your relationship alive and do something on a whim. Prove that romance is not dead! Be adventurous and try something new.
