8 ways to FAKE FLAWLESS SKIN

A perfect complexion can boost your confidence and improve your wellbeing, but often feels out of reach. Here's how to fake great skin and reap the benefits. How to look fabulous and flawless today from Body + Soul.

Try an ice-cube facial ~ Cold water is the ultimate skin tonic. After cleansing and exfoliating, fill the sink with cold water. Add a few ice cubes. Dip your face into the water, holding it there for 10 seconds. Repeat several times. The cold helps to flush away puffiness, tone the skin and refine your pores. If your skin is on the oily side, add a teaspoon of white vinegar or lemon juice.

Exfoliate with coffee Use the old tin of coffee grounds at the back of your pantry as homemade exfoliant. Tip a tablespoonful into the palm of your hand, add enough coconut or olive oil to make a thick paste, then gently massage the mixture onto your face. As well as buffing away dead skin cells, this exfoliating mask encourages circulation, thanks to the stimulating properties of caffeine.

Use a Mask ~ Rejuvenating masks, such as Ella Baché Masque Soir de Féte, $59, can give you the complexion of an A-lister walking the red carpet within minutes. It is brimming with skin-brightening botanicals to refine pores, mop up oil slicks and firm and brighten your complexion.

Create Glow Complexion-brightening creams, such as Clarins Beauty Flash Balm, $60. Can double as a skin-smoothing primer and radiance infuser. This balm uses algae extract, witch hazel and olive extracts to tighten, refine and illuminate skin.
YSL Top Secrets Flash Radiance Brush, $88, which contains caffeine to stimulate the skin and help erase the signs of fatigue, is just as glow-enhancing. Micropigments reflect the light, concealing flaws and brightening the complexion.

Massage under eyes ~ eliminate dark circles and puffiness fast by massaging around the orbital zone when applying your eye cream. Better still, invest in a product with a roller-ball applicator, such as Olay Regenerist Anti-Aging Eye Roller, $32.49. Its metal roller-ball head has a cooling action which, together with massaging and stimulating ingredients such as caffeine, helps to flush away fluid and eliminate dark circles.
Don't pile on concealer. It will make dark circles appear even darker. Instead, use a highlighter product to disguise shadows and draw light to the area. Try The Body Shop Lightening Touch, $26.95, blending it over any dark or dull areas on the face, including under-eye circles. It also brightens the inner corners of the eyes, highlights your cupid's bow and lightens the area around the nose, so your complexion is instantly refreshed.

Get the right base ~ When choosing foundation, opt for a formula designed to enhance radiance. Revlon PhotoReady Makeup, $36.95, which has photo-chromatic pigments in its light-diffusing formula to deliver a sheer finish. Likewise, YSL Le Teint Touche Éclat, $78, which was created on the back of the iconic YSL Touche Éclat Highlighter, $55, uses a soft-focus gel to smooth away imperfections without masking the skin.

Banish Blemishes ~ Cover blemishes after applying foundation, using a fine-tipped brush or your fingertips (but make sure both are clean first). If you have a blemish that is raised above the skin, use a shade that is the same colour as your foundation. If it is indented like a scar or pigmentation, use a concealer that is one shade lighter than your foundation.

Powder strategicallyA strategic, gentle dusting of highlighter powder across the nose and cheeks, and lightly over the forehead, can create a lovely, radiant, soft-focus effect. Try Laura Mercier Shimmer Powder in Starlight, $68.
